LA County Confirms Edison Caused Eaton Fire

  Los Angeles County Officially Determines Southern California Edison Caused the Eaton Fire as Wildfire Liability Debate Continues in Sacramento On August 4, 2026, the Los Angeles County Fire Department released its official investigation into the Eaton Fire, concluding that the January 7, 2025 wildfire was caused by electrical arcing from an out-of-service Southern California Edison (SCE) transmission tower in Eaton Canyon. According to the report, investigators determined that two electrical arcing events from the transmission equipment ignited dry vegetation beneath the tower, ultimately leading to one of the most destructive wildfires in Los Angeles County history. The fire claimed 19 lives, destroyed more than 9,400 homes and structures, and burned more than 14,000 acres across Altadena and surrounding communities.
